Wildlife on Canvas: Nurturing Young Artists Through Conservation Education in Sri Lanka

The young artists receive their education through the Young Zoologists’ Association of Sri Lanka(YZA), a full-time volunteer youth organization based at the National Zoological Gardens in Colombo (Dehiwala Zoo). The YZA's theme is conservation through education. Since its establishment in 1972, theorganization has nurtured many successful conservationists, researchers, artists, photographers, divers, and tour guides.Artists among the animals The artists developed their skills in wildlife and nature art from a young age through education. They studied animals both at the zoo and in their natural habitats in Sri Lanka, which include rainforests, montane cloud forests, deciduous forests, marshlands, and coral reefs. With their scientific knowledge, these artists create accurate illustrations of various species, including fish, insects, amphibians, snakes, birds, and mammals. They transform these illustrations into realistic paintings using ink, watercolors, oracrylics.
